"New" x6850 has unlocked HSPL? Need Help or Information, Please!
Dear Friends,
I'm a relative newbie to all of this stuff but would really appreciate some advice. I bought a "new in box" Verizon version of the Touch Pro (the x6850, I believe they call it) on eBay. The seller claimed it had "only been turned on and had one test call made to make sure it was working." It has arrived and I immediately checked the boot code and it reports: RAPH500 SPL-0.35.CMONEX MicroP-Raph (LED) v8182 MicroP-Raph (KEY) v0682 PSOC-Raph STAGE_EVT v20 so it appears this is not the Verizon stock ROM, at least to me. My question is: Does this matter? As long as the ROM is valid is there any risk to me if someone had my phone and tinkered with it before me (assuming it has a clean ESN, of course, and that I reload a "stock" ROM)? Why would someone get a phone just to unlock it and possibly dump the ROM? I'm concerned there may be some hacking into my service somehow but I'm not knowledgable enough to know. Thank you in advance for any views and advice offered. Happy Holidays to all. |

you should be fine.... obviously it's been unlocked so your next step would be to see if it activates

My advice is to call out the seller on this. He obviously made no indication to you that he flashed a custom rom or unlocked the phone. False advertisement. If you are fine with it then no big deal but to me he lied. That right there indicates he isn't trustworthy and I would not do buisness with him. You don't know what else he might have lied to you about.

ummm, wtf
did you like buy it monday and he priority shipped it to you? that unlocker just came out this past week |
Re: "New" x6850 has unlocked HSPL? Need Help or Information, Please!
Yes, he shipped it overnight-express. I got it yesterday evening.
Like the previous responder, I feel I was cheated in the sense I didn't get what I thought I was buying. On the other hand, now I have what appears to be a functioning X6850 which I can't get from Verizon here right now. My concern was really on the "safety" side. Can the seller have done anything to the phone that somehow jeapordizes me or my account? Thanks for everyone's comments :) |
Re: "New" x6850 has unlocked HSPL? Need Help or Information, Please!
There's nothing that will jeapordize your account. But this does mean that the phone was more than just turned on and had a test call. The only thing the unlocker does is give you the ability to flash custom roms.

Agreed. To the best of my knowledge, you won't have to worry about being "hacked" or anything. I would flash a stock rom back on there, relock the phone then hard reset a few times to make sure everything is straight then try and activate the phone. |

Thank you all very much for your comments. I'll try the flash-relock-reset cycle and then try to activate.
I hate being a newb but appreciate how easy you all make it to learn :). |

Well, as expected, there ARE issues with the phone. Not surprisingly, the phone has been reported as stolen.
Now I find myself in possession of stolen property :silent:. |
