What is the advantage of a custom rom?

The question is in the post. I came across custom roms first when I was flashing the newest stock rom to my Mogul, and was going to try a custom one, but the Mogul's usb port stopped working right.

So, I was just wondering what the advantage is? Nobody ever explains it, and all I see in the logs are "removed X" "added X" which I could just do myself.

freedom... having a custom rom unshackles you from your provider... custom roms give you speed, better performances, newer software then what came stock on your phone... more or less total control of how you want your phone to look and feel.

Re: What is the advantage of a custom rom?

I waited a couple months before I decided 2 do mine. I'm glad I decided 2 flash mine, it's wayyyy better. The best thing I could compare it to is whenever I get a new computer. The very first thing I do is reformat and install a fresh copy of windows and install all the drivers manually. If I went back to the stock rom how it was when I first got it, compare to what I have now I would say my phone ran like crap. What's nice if you don't like it for whatever reason, there is other roms to try or you can always go back to stock. After trying it myself I don't see how anyone could. Just make sure to read up on everything before you start, as long as you follow instructions you will be fine. There are very helpful people on here.

It allows you to use carriers other than "sprint" or verizon easily. On cricket we use to0's rom and it has MMS fix, WAP settings, and other cricket items.

Re: What is the advantage of a custom rom?

Well for me.... I am using Yay4juggs 4.0 super clean rom. Its a old rom now probably 3 or more months old. Has not been updated since anyone has heard of yay4juggs. Looks like he just bailed ship and went his own way. Sad. But anyways... he left us a good rom tested with time itself. I have been using it and nothing has beaten it yet. Over 3 months old and NOTHING of the new roms here has beaten it. Its fast and most importantly Opera 9.5 on his rom is a hell of alot smoother than any other rom in here. Thats the selling point for me. Anyways.........
