Hey everybody,
I'm very new to all this and I've read "How To Unlock Your Touch Pro" by Comex but I still have a couple questions. First of all I have a new HTC Touch Pro with Alltel. I'm happy with their service for the most part and don't want to leave, however, there are programs preinstalled that I can't remove. If I unlock my phone I should be able to remove these programs correct? And if I unlock the phone this won't affect my service with Alltel will it? I basically just want to remove these annoying programs. Also, what is SSPL, HSPL,GSM, CDMA? How do I know whether I have a GSM or CDMA?

Alltell is CDMA, and you want to use a HSPL, which is basically the unlocking program for your phone.

After you unlock your phone, you will be able to flash a custom ROM to your phone, which can be made to not include those annoying programs. Although note that simply because your phone is unlocked, doesn't mean you can do so. You will have to flash an entirely new ROM in order to do so. If you would like the same basic Alltel ROM, then you can try looking for a "Clean" stock Alltel ROM. Essentially this is the exact same thing you have right now, without all the unnecessary programs.

I would like to thank all the people who have posted so far in this lengthy thread about the unlocker.

Had it not been for the many failures and noob questions, I would not have been able to comfortably unlock my phone.

What I learned is this

1. RTFForum all the way through to the end
2. If possible, do all your rom flashing from a clean computer ( no firewall, etc)
3. Re-read the forum
4. Follow the instructions, and read them at least 5 times, once out loud for those of us in the LD community
5. make sure to thank those who have gone before

First i would like to thank all that have put this info up to better our phones. Now, i'm a noob at this but i feel as though i'm a fast learner. i have done some modz to my ppc-6700 and now i stepped up to a htc touch pro. I was wondering if anyone has posted a video of this process on youtube or something like that... I've searched but haven't found it... If not i would like to know if someone could do that please? Hey guys thanks for all the help, but all this is completely new to me, so I have some questions. I followed all the instructions on the first page on how to unlock my touch pro. But once it was installed and my phone rebooted, am I still supposed to have all my custom settings? or should everything be erased, like all my contacts and photos? And for some reason I can't enter the bootloader mode.....meaning the tricolor screen doesn't appear.

when tryin 2 unlock my phone i get in to

security unlocked

RAPH800 MFG
SPL-0.25.C-SSPL
MicroP-Raph (LED) v0c85
MircoP-Raph (KEY) v0685
PSOC-Raph STAGE_EVT v20

im running the Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.exe and it looks like its gonna run the update and shows the % bar but it stays on 0% and after a min i get this error

ERROR [284] : UPDATE ERROR

i gues it thinks my fone is bricked but its not cuz i do a soft reset and it boots back up
but i try the volume down/ power button/ reset button to try 2 put it in bootloader and it doesnt work

wat am i doin wrong>>

Alright guys, I am having a little trouble figuring out how I should know when my TP is unlocked? Should all my custom settings still be intact or should everything like my contacts and pictures be erased?

I have tried the unlocking step by step. where I get stopped is after the window pops up that says make sure that you are connected to your pc, check to make sure the your computer does not hibernate etc, I check the box and then click next and that is where I get the dialog box that says "ERROR[240]: File Open The Update Utility can not open the requested file. Please check your update Utility" ughhh and this is as far as I get. I have done many searches and i seem to be the only one getting this error. i am connected through Activesync and battery is over 50% Can anyone PLEASE help me? I have a Verizon TP
