4G Won't Turn on
 

I have run into a strange problem with my Epic 4G.

When I hit the option to enable 4g, it says "turning on 4g" then it says "unknown" and then goes back to the turned off state.

How can I troubleshoot this? 4g is a big reason I bought this phone.

my guess is its not in your area, mine does that in "no 4g" areas. where ya from and i can look if you have 4g or do you know you do?

I will be in a known 4g area tomorrow (Baltimore MD) so I will test it tomorrow.

it does work there in inner harbor i can confirm that while i was partying there last week. i can tell you if its in your area though but it will not enable if its not in your area.

I went into several known 4g areas today (As indicated by my 3g/4g aircard) and each time on the Epic 4G it says "unknown" under the 4g option, I hit turn on, nothing happens except it says "turning on 4g" in gray and then goes back to "unknown."

How long have you had the phone? If its less than 30 days I'd take it back and get a new one.

I reflashed the phone back to the original stock rom and baseband (I force applied the D18 update) and it still says "turning on 4g" then "Unknown."

I'm going to take it to Sprint tomorrow. It's a hardware defect they will replace or I'll raise hell.

Let me know how that goes. I'm working on a project in downtown Houston. 4G is not available in Los Angeles yet so I was excited to give it a try. Everywhere I go I try 4G ... it says "turning on ... " then goes to unknown.

I'm going to call Sprint again tonite (I called last week and thought I'd give their suggestions a try).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

This is exactly the same problem I posted in the beginning and am having. It's a hardware issue, take it to a Sprint store and get a replacement.

I'd have to agree. There's no 4g where I am, when I turn it on it says "scanning, disconnected" nothing about"unknown."

Short of a Miracle, Number 2 is going back in about 20 minutes.

I got it back to my office and noticed it is dead. I reboot it, it shuts off after a few minutes.

It continues to shut off every 5 minutes or so.

I reset to faculty, continues.

I'm going to Odin it now just in case it's a software issue.

Not as far as I know.everyone who got the issue went to replace their phone...that said let me confirm..are you having problems with 4g connecting or 4g going unknown?

My 4G now works! I did take it into a Sprint store and they replaced it ... for $35 ... it seems that it is a hardware issue.

I had the Best Buy insurance, but with them they would give me a loaner phone while their tech support checked out the phone. I wouldn't go for that so I switched insurance.
