Kernel Rom From Gbhill Makes your current Rom Fly. Also be sure to download the SetCpu from Coolbho3000 which you can get from here http://www.pokedev.com/setcpu/

Just install as update file on your current rom from the boot loader screen. for advanced users you already know to ADB it so no need to go further


People asked why I don't have dev threads here, so here's one. I'm friendly, just try to read the dev chatter and tweak stuff.

Quick and dirty version of a kernel 100% working with setcpu for throttling. No overclock yet.

Also has MemKiller configured fairly aggressively.

Built using MCR 2.x inits (for dirty hack of ram managment changes, plan to build universal init to work for all popular ROMs).
Kernel built with debugging and HTC performance lock stripped for full wake ramp up support. i.e. works 100% with setcpu.
No compcache, as I think there may be issues with our kernel and compcache as is, and I think the performance lock may have been causing it. Only fight one bug at a time.

This kernel is in update.zip format, flash like any ROM.
Work's 100% with Gumbo ROM and MCR 2.x provided MoDaCo custom kernel was not flashed.
Expected to work with stock.
Would love a FRESH ROM tester to try, so any bugs and source can get to flipz for his kernel project, as well as my init in this project.

Usual applies. Be sure to backup. Wipe may be needed, YMMV. Myself and several other testers have went through all dev versions with no wipe, as well as a final wipe and reflash and saw no difference.

Credit to coolbho3000 here on xda for advice with HTC throttling. He's also the dev of SetCPU and his app is indispensable with this kernel IMO. Best buck I've spent at the Market for the donate version.

Let's roll our own community kernel.

This is actually a 1.5 Kernel like the sprints kernel they cant seem to get right. Well he tweaked it and built it for speed and memory boost. It also has a battery save option as well. I will tell you this thing flies. Its based of some great work from Devs which he mentioned.The Rom esoteric1311 posted is from this same Dev. You install this on top of his rom or any other rom I.E Fresh , Modaco , ETC

I'm kinda scared to set SetCPU to run upon boot though. Anyone try it?

This should give you an idea on what to do , but also this post explains it as well .This is what GBhil stated

Set your sliders to 480 max 245 min
select performance and refresh, cpu speed should be 480
select powersave or msm7k and refresh, cpu speed should be 245 (ewww) lol
Select ondemand and refresh, cpu should be 480. It will ramp down to 245 when sleeping, and now it will ramp back to 480 when you wake it up.

I've been using ondemand @528 max 245 min, without tweaking the ondemand parameters in setcpu. It's nice to finally have a working way to scale the cpu to your own prefs.

You have to allow the app, Su permissions.

That Particular file is a APk . just unzip the file put or adb pull onto card and install like any other app

I removed the .apk from the .zip and pushed it to my phone via Flipz kitchen...

Have to say wow what a file been running this since lastnight had a full charge used its for about 3 hours yesterday for work . Battery did not move left ot of the charger beem running most of the morning battery has.dropped 5% nice

we have some great developers here. they are almost done with 1.6 compatible version of this. now when they complete the 1.6 and/or 2.1 Rom which is already faster . the hero will truly be a hero

Just a heads up. I just had my phone turn off due to low battery. There was no warning. Dont know if this was the kernel or not but I thought I would bring it up to see if anyone else had this happen.

nah. I got it figured out. I even got some advanced settings in too but for some reason they don't stick after a soft reset o just turning the phone off and on.

Flashed over Fresh 1.1 ROM and right off the bat I noticed a huge speed increase in processing power! very nice work!

Are you rooted? you need to flash the stock Rom back.

Yes, I am rooted and I did restore from nandriod and I did it again and nothing, so I flashed madoco 2.2 rom and worked but I want to install the setcpu but I don't find the file, just the update.zip, any advice please???
I am new with this and I want to know what is better if madoco or fresh rom or other one, I want the most stable and fast because I don't want to keep flashing, I get tired of doing this with the diamond.

alright , i got 1.4.4a, installed . Opened app, went down to HTC Hero under devices. it went to a black screen with SetCPU on a grey bar and does nothing for hours, if i try to back out it force closes, yes I am rooted. yes i have uninstalled and re-installed. what the heck do i do? I went to SU in my apps list and there is nothing there, just a blank screen . the SU icon is a little black ninja. ...... if any of this helps. I didnt download the Update.zip from the SetCPU site although i have no idea what to do with it.

First of all, you specifically said you were trying to install setcpu. Secondly, attitude not necessary when asking for help. Obviously your post wasn't clear enough or I wouldn't have advised you what to do. You may not be a moron but I failed to recognize that I was supposed to know who you are or your experience level. What rom are you running? Stock won't work with this Kernel. If you are on another rom besides modaco skip this suggestion. If not, get Fresh, Gumbo, or TTG.

Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and make sure USB Debugging is on. Then when SU permissions comes up after you turn on SetCPU make sure you choose Always Allow.

I am using modaco rom, is any problem using modaco with this kernel and setcpu? any rom recommendation!!

Not that I know of, but it may work. He just specifically states not to flash over modaco. I suggest Gumbo TTG or Fresh. I personally use Fresh.

It will flash over any rom. when he stated not to flash over Modaco's 1.2 Kernel that is similar to this one It has a compcache feature that will conflict with the setcpu. The Modaco roms are safe to do so
