It will flash over any rom. when he stated not to flash over Modaco's 1.2 Kernel that is similar to this one It has a compcache feature that will conflict with the setcpu. The Modaco roms are safe to do so

Thanked for clarification.

Yep, thats definitely the windows still in you. Lol. Atleast you are used to reinstalling everything over and over, where as others would find this very frustrating. Lol

This should give you an idea on what to do , but also this post explains it as well .This is what GBhil stated

Set your sliders to 480 max 245 min
select performance and refresh, cpu speed should be 480
select powersave or msm7k and refresh, cpu speed should be 245 (ewww) lol
Select ondemand and refresh, cpu should be 480. It will ramp down to 245 when sleeping, and now it will ramp back to 480 when you wake it up.

I've been using ondemand @528 max 245 min, without tweaking the ondemand parameters in setcpu. It's nice to finally have a working way to scale the cpu to your own prefs.

Hope This helps

First of all, you specifically said you were trying to install setcpu. Secondly, attitude not necessary when asking for help. Obviously your post wasn't clear enough or I wouldn't have advised you what to do. You may not be a moron but I failed to recognize that I was supposed to know who you are or your experience level. Good luck on your search.

What rom are you running? Stock won't work with this Kernel. If you are on another rom besides modaco skip this suggestion. If not, get Fresh, Gumbo, or TTG.

Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and make sure USB Debugging is on. Then when SU permissions comes up after you turn on SetCPU make sure you choose Always Allow.

Kbuessen: Sorry you feel thusly, but if you read my original post the first sentence says I have the app d'ld and installed, it then goes on to talk about what happens when I run it. No need to flame me for "attitude" my friend. Thank you for the good luck wishes :)

ThaCounty: I am running TTG. I dl'd the Kernal, installed from zip. Dl'd the SetCPU ran it and under the first screen when it asks for your device, I choose HTC HERO (which is indeed the phone I'm using) and after that it goes to a black screen w/ a gray bar on top saying SetCPU in the corner. Never moves from that and backing out causes force close.
It never asked for SU permission when I started the app, but I did notice my SU icon changed from a blue square with SU on it ,into a little black ninja.
Additionally, USB debugging is on

Re: [CDMA KERNEL ROM]Gumbo Kernel beta project + RAM hack

I want to know if with this configuration of setcpu I am going to make my battery last longer and have good performance:

cpu governor?
Ondemand

max 528
min 245

Set boot on

profiles on
charging on: 528 max 245 min
sleep/standby on: 245 max 245 min
charge power <100: on max 528 min 245.

If I am using pandora and the screen is black, is the phone sleeping? and 245 mhz is going to take effect in pandora performance and wifi tether application ?
Thanks

since its fairly new and experimental to a certain point everyones input and settings are appreciated. the settings you currently have are not needed in the profiles at it will max 528 while running and 245 at sleeping automatically please try out and get back to us. this is a great site that thrives off user feedback. we appreciate you all

Sounds like you may need another SetCPU install. Sometimes an install doesn't work correctly. I am using the one from XDA I don't know if you downloaded from market or what, but its not working at all as you said. Uninstall, reset, and reinstall.
