Thats what Im wondering, what is supposed to be done with this? Maybe someone can tear it apart and get the wifi hot spot feature to be free. That or maybe there are some camera settings that can be unlocked... I don't know Im just putting stuff out there.

I would imagine the techies here are already devising plans on unlocking the wifi hotspot feature! I know I don't want to pay an extra 30 bucks a month for that.....but would definitely like to have it available!

Re: Sprint HTC Evo 4G Shipped ROM

Since it looks like its rooted already (unless something changes by the actual release), you should be able to install the wireless tether app from the Market to enable a hot spot feature. Someone would have to test it on the Evo though.

With Froyo, I now have the hot spot ability with stock, but apparently that's going to be left up to the carriers as they upgrade their devices. My guess is that most of them won't allow it.

hummm. and since when has that stopped us? heck, if it's already rooted and not even out yet, i'm thinking there are going to be some pretty amazing things that we'll be about to do with this bad boy.

lol, well don't get too excited.....it's not all that fancy....I'm still trying to learn Android, hell I'm trying to learn linux too....1st time on linux.

Basically I took the shipped rom, decompiled it, tweaked it w/ root access, then rebuilt the rom....hell, I don't know if it even works, lol.

here's a snapshot of the kitchen layout:

Excallent, at least when I fail building my ROM there will be a good one floating around for me to try.

What kitchen did you use? One for the nexus? A link would be great!

Thanks for the link. Here is another good one I found that gives detailed instructions on setting it up on a virtual machine and running the kitchen. It also includes info on pulling the rom image files from the stock image (which we now have).

LINK

They describe VirtualBox, but I used VMware and used Linux Mint as my OS (nicer version of Ubuntu IMO). I ran the kitchen using the EVO rom image and I made my own ROM.

Do you know how I apply the unlock in the kitchen? The kitchen had the option, but I suspect this isn't made for the EVO at this time.

when u say unlock, are you referring to the "add root permissions" option?

if so, this is the script to add root:

Code:

scripts/ensure_boot_extracted

if [ -d WORKING_* ]
then
  clear
else
  exit 0
fi

echo
echo ROOTING
echo ----------------------------------------------------
echo
echo The following will be done for root:
echo - Add /system/bin/su
echo - Add /system/app/Superuser.apk
echo - Add su entry to update-script file
echo - Edit default.prop in the ramdisk
echo - Build new boot.img
echo
echo "Optional (will ask before proceeding):"
echo - Add /system/xbin/busybox
echo - Add busybox entries to current update-script file
echo

echo "Press Enter when you are ready"
read enterKey
echo

cd WORKING_*

if [ -e system/bin/su ]
then
  echo "/system/bin/su already present"
else
  echo "Adding /system/bin/su"

Re: Sprint HTC Evo 4G Shipped ROM

If what some are saying about the SD card problems being related to an early release of the OS are true, then the official, shipped, Sprint rom may be useful to fix their bug.
