Re: OMJ's HTC Sense 2.5 & 2.1 ROMs | WM 6.5 / WM 6.5.x | 21055 / 21887 / 23541 | 2/26
Wait, so how is build number 23541 6.5.5, and the higher build number, 28014 is 6.5.3? Man, I'm confused...
Anyway, I've been on Energy for the past several months, but since he doesn't actually have a Diamond to test with, there's been a number of lingering bugs. I've got a few questions about this one before I try to flash (partly to decide which version I even want to flash..) Right now I'm on 28014 with Sense 2.1 (EnergyROM), and I'd say that it's reasonably stable, but the few bugs I've got are starting to irritate me more and more. So question 1... are these bugs present in OMJ's ROM? * The volume rocker works even if the device is locked * In call volume always defaults to middle, does not remember setting * The HTC SMS app won't show all of my messages (but the All Messages button that launches the Windows SMS app does) * The lock screen thinks I still have an appointment (on the next day) after an appointment has passed * Occasionally unlocking my phone will drop me to the dialer and dial * (I have no idea why, and it's inconsistent) Next question... has Sense 2.5 gotten any better on the Diamond? The last time I tried it, there were noticeable problems that looked to mostly stem from trying to port it to VGA. For example, it was impossible to set the Twitter update settings to the lowest value because the menu would be off the bottom of the screen, or quick launch icons on the home screen would be cut off (doesn't look to be an issue from the screenshots on page 1). Lastly, what's the difference between Sense 2.5 and 2.5 2012? I assume 2012 is a newer build, but what's changed? Is it worth it? |

The difference between 2.5 and 2.5 2012 is that 2.5 was designed for new phones, and the 2012 version was designed more specifically for the Diamond spec'd phones. The 2012 tends to run lil faster. There are a few quirks on 2012, but overall usability has been great. The difference 23xxx vs 28xxx is not that the 28xxx is higher number, its just the series of the builds. Actually 23xxx is newer, and has threaded emails, you'll have to see it to understand. If you want the most stable build I would recommend the Sense 2.5 2012 | 6.5.3 | 28014 | v1.2, which I had been using for a long time and works very smooth. Of course a lot of people do like the Sense 2.1 because it is a lil faster in speed. Down fall of the 2012 and the 6.5.5 is that Manilla Locker has not been ported over yet. |

Can you tell me if you've noticed any of the bugs I listed above with the OMJ ROMs? As for Manila Locker, based on the name I'm guessing it provides similar functionality to SmartLock (neat, it's been updated since I last checked!). Is there any known compatibility issue with just using that instead?
What are some of the 2012 quirks? |

*The volume rocker does work when the device is locked. * In call volume setting does persist across calls for me. * I don't SMS so I'm no help on that one. * I haven't noticed the lock screen calendar issue, but my device lock only kicks in after 24 hours (and when rebooting or connecting to a pc). * As previously mentioned, I don't use the lock screen regularly but I've never had it drop me into the dialer upon an unlock. |

AGPS = ability to get an instant ballpark position as soon as you open Google Maps GPS = choose use GPS and then after 5-10 seconds it will connect and get a more accuratae location |

1) Using information known to the assistance server but not the GPS receiver 2) Calculation of position by the server using information from the GPS receiver http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS I'm sure that type 1 AGPS is working even in the newer builds. If it wasn't then it would take between 40 seconds and 10 minuets to get a GPS lock. I can often get a GPS lock (4-10 satellites) within 5-10 seconds when I'm standing outside or near a window. QuickGPS is a form of AGPS, when it downloads the GPS ephemeris data, it allows our devices to get the quick 5-10 seconds GPS lock. The problem with the newer builds is that BEFORE the GPS can get a lock, the older builds would allow a rough estimate of your location based on Tower ID (I assume it's tower ID). Try it for yourself, flash Sense 2.5 6.5.3 28014 v1.6 and DO NOT ENABLE GPS in google maps, it will still give you a rough location (within 1000m). If you disable GPS in google maps on the newer ROM builds, it wont give you any location at all. Maybe OMJ could shed some light onto this, perhaps some of the HTC packages geo location packages were updated between these ROMs? |

Ok..this is off topic. But what are the difference btw 28XXX and 21XXX. I know someone mentioned that 28xxx is supposed to be more stable, but how about it compared to the 21877. Dose the 23xxx resemble more of the 28xxx or 21877. (WOW...thats a lot xxx)...lol

21xxx (6.5) - Start buttons on top of screen, most stable and fast 28xxx (6.5.x) - Start button on bottom of screen, decently stable 23xxx (6.5.x) - Start button on bottom of screen, most unstable with threaded emails Sense runs on top of most of these builds, so in a sense, Sense 2.1/2.5 are separate from the Builds. |
