So the big deal with RAPH800

so i have been reading and reading and checking custom ROMS. It seems there is a norm of NOT changing the Device ID to RAPH800.. now i understand that BCR will work in this ID but most are not willing to change it just for that app ..some say that it causes other problems ..it seems very hush hush...

Can someone explain why the big secracy of it all?

is changing the Device ID considered WARZE?? Will sprint call me and yell at me?

I would just like to understand it all if someone would be willing to talk about it..

The program is considered warez by some...Not the ID.

You're changing part of your phone so you can use a program you didn't pay for, and is not free, how is that not warez?

Due to the fact that it IS warez, and changing the Model ID has no other benefits, having a custom ROM with that would be promoting the Warez, or doing nothing at all, so why change it?

okay so i do understand that but you can download an pay for the app and use on phone with RAPH800 ID ...they have a 30day trial

so would that still be considered warez?

someone else said it cause other problems ..thats what im trying to find out ...i wanted to weigh the pros and cons of having the device ID set to RAPH800...

besides there are a number of apps that are added to the custom roms that are not free ( trial versions etc ) or am i mistaken?

Please dont get this wrong , i am just trying to understand all of this ..i am i no way tring to start anything by these posts except for just info

I tried it, and it hardly worked at all, but ok.

You can download one of their trials that doesn't require you to change the Model ID I believe.

nope the trials do not work with the Sprint Diamond at this time ...thats from an email from them ..

so what if someone made a normal ROM ( default ) with just the Device ID RAPH800.. would that still be considered warez? sort of let people add what they want ..this way people could actualy buy the app and use it on the sprint diamond...

Re: So the big deal with RAPH800

I believe the issue is in the OEM floating around here, it was grabbed from a rom where the carrier paid their licensing fee to have that software on their rom, a Raphael rom. Someone assumed that since it was like that, the software is free with no trial period. It's not and illegal. Same is going on at xda with adobe flash v3.1 and their legal team, surprised it hasn't hit here yet....Same thing with Music ID here as well.
