Diamond2/TopazC on Sprint? Any hope?

I have yet to see any indication that Sprint plans to offer a successor to the Diamond, e.g. Diamond2, TopazC or even the Omnia.

No? any hope? forced to consider the TP2/Rhodium (brick with QWERTY that I don't want)?

It looks like AT&T is going to be the carrier with both models this year, and Sprint just the one... unless something changes.

I find it interesting that Sprint seems to be focusing heavily on phones with keyboards (both the pre and TP2).

It has seemed that the trend is moving towards soft keyboards and touch interfaces. I wonder what has motivated Sprint to get back to physical keyboards.

I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to the Diamond 2

I wouldn't say the trend is moving towards that way. Well lets look at the members of ppcgeeks or even over at xda for example. Compare the touchpro forums vs the diamond forums and omnia forums. There is so much more activity in the touchpro forums, why? because many people see the keyboard as a must have, I know I do. I have both a diamond and a pro and when it comes to sending long emails or anything having to do with a lot of typing an on screen keyboard just aint gonna cut it. My diamond is my weekend phone and my touch pro is the work horse during the week.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I was thinking more in terms of mass appeal, which may not be the target of WM. Obviously, the iphone has been very successful, and even blackberry gave up the keyboard on Storm.

I just think that Sprint doesn't get it... (continually)...
They probably think that their entry in the touch-only segment is the Instinct (and its successors).

Sprint clearly thinks the Instinct is something special, worthy of forcing all Instinct customers to their Simply Extravagant Plans, whereas all I see in the Instinct is yet another touch screen featurephone like the FIVE that Verizon has (e.g. Voyager, Dare, Glyde, Versa, Krave) that VZW allows on $15/mo data options.

Sprint won't even offer the Omnia...

Sprint seems to be all about REDUCING the number of choices... reducing plan choices, reducing phone choices... sad really...

Even when it comes to mass appeal it seems like the qwerty keyboared is the in thing, look at how many different non PDA phones now have a qwerty keyboared for faster texting. The thing with apple is that they just have a strong following and what ever they make regardless of price will probably sell a bunch. I mean damn, apple can take an htc diamond, redesign it and then call it an iphone mini and it will sell out through out the country, or they could release an iphone with a qwerty keyboared and it will sell like hot cakes.

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...h-plenty-more/

I've not seen anything that changes the EOL for the current Diamond so I would say either (1) they don't plan to replace it, or (2) they are making room for its successor.

I tend to think (2) they will go with the successor (Diamond 2). I also think it is very curious that VZW has not released their late release Diamond as a general release yet. Its available business release but more than a month after coming available to business accounts it still hasnt shown up wide release. I wonder if VZW has kept their order (stock) low to make way for a Diamond 2 roll-out themselves late in the year.
