Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
how about all those here who are Using Google maps and live search all day updating traffic info as they drive for their jobs?
How much data do they use in a month? |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
yea the OP skipped a line
Sprint is updating its Terms Of Service starting in mid-July and will be capping mobile broadband data usage at 5GB. Previously, Sprint offered truly unlimited mobile broadband. Once the new Terms Of Service go into effect, users who go over the 5GB cap, or a 300MB roaming cap, will be charged extra fees. ""This will apply to both network cards as well as tethering mobile phones to laptops."" AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless currently offer 5GB data plans, also. |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
For everyone talking about leaving with no ETF, I was under the impression that you could only use a change to the T&C as a way out of your contract if it effected the base plan, not optional add-ons live texting or data services. This loophole was closed after a bunch of people left when texts went from $.10 to $.15 each. Is this accurate?

thats a lot of bull...I feel if you already have a contract with them before the cap it should stay the same..
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
So they seriously expect someone to pay 59.99 a month for 5 GB?
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
Talk about timing, the Sprint commercial just came on... I think we should all email him... quoting:
"If you could change the way wireless companies did things, what would you do? I'm Dan Hesse the new CEO of Sprint. Here's our idea, use your phone for all the great things it can do without worrying about the meter running. How's that for a wireless revolution. Pretty awesome huh?" The Simply Everything Plan Unlimited surfing Unlimited push-to-talk Unlimited texting Unlimited emailing Unlimited GPS Navigation Unlimited talking Welcome to the Now Network. (tm) -- dan@sprint.com |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
propaganda is often misleading, this will effect none of us.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
Just sent "dan" the following.
Unlimited Everything Plan...or is it unlimited, but only up to 5GB? "If you could change the way wireless companies did things, what would you do?" Well. i would start with taking a look at this. Sprint is updating its Terms Of Service starting in mid-July and will be capping mobile broadband data usage at 5GB. Previously, Sprint offered truly unlimited mobile broadband. Once the new Terms Of Service go into effect, users who go over the 5GB cap, or a 300MB roaming cap. Interesting, no? It's also quite interesting considering the scheduled release dates of working MMS on some Windows Mobile phones.... I'm <inserted name here>, a new Customer of Sprint. Here's My idea, use My phone for all the great things it can do without worrying about the meter running. How's that for a wireless revolution. Pretty awesome huh?" |

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
wow... i dont know what to say.
the underlying company behind unlimited data, and best bang for the buck is finally crumbling down. What a shame. A company thats already got a bad rep for almost everything and possibly on the verge of collapsing this would be the last thing i thought they would pull from their grimy hat. i agree, if you arent bound to the new terms then you shouldnt be liable for 5gb limit. considering every other usa carrier has a limit, im worried about the current state of our country's wireless network.. we truely are behind the times compared to japan and europe and thats a shame. Looks like tethering when commiecast is down is going to be a problem. |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
This change will not affect any subscriber with a Powervision or Vision plan. This will only affect PAM and Datacards.
Again, if you have a Data Card, or PAM (Phone as Modem) on your account, there will be a contractual change. If you have a regular minute plan with vision access or power vision access, this will NOT affect you unless you also have PAM on the line. |

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
Hopefully this will just remain a rumor. The high cost of data usage is one of the reasons I left Sprint for Cingular back in 2001.
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
this won't happened there just thinking of it but they know if they do they will loose more custumers a lot more every sprint maneger that I talk with and district manegers even confirm it they won't doit

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
Ok, so say someone was using PDAnet on their employee line any thoughts on how that would be handled? As it is the program hides that fact that you are tethering.
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
if it hides the fact that ur thethering, it'll look like ur just accessing the pages via ur phone. unless u stick out enough to notify someone to check you out.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
this really efed up my day being that I intended on buying a laptop tomorrow smh
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
I just bought a TV Tuner so I could use Orb for more than streaming music.
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
This does suck, but to put it in perspective, I am at 1.2 gigs for 2/3 a billing cycle, after slinging, push email, surfing etc. you only really needto be careful if you are tethering at this point (which ive done of too)
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
i dont think sprint can afford any major mistakes like these at this time...they already screwed up with the contract change terms...and more than a million people left them...
I dont think they would do this...and if so...they are just planing to bring down the company to bankruptcy. |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
I emailed dan@sprint.com for the heck of it, and stated my concern about the 5GB cap.
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
dude 5 gigs in one month is FAR more then what the most of us use.
VW is right, the only people who REALLY need to worry are the ones who are doing major slinging and using the phones as modems for XBL and such. In my few years with alltel/sprint, i have never came close to 5 gigs of bandwidth in a month, and im a power user.... |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
5GB=18.2 hours of "orb" streamed video at 80KB/sec, which is the size of my out pipe for orb.
I can't imagine it would be any *more* time for sprint TV. So they're giving you a half-hour/day use for sprint tv, give or take. Interesting. Now, looking at my usage, I'm at 72,000 or so of whatever units it reports (probably KB) after 2 days in the current billing cycle. So for my typical email and light browsing use I would use just a couple meg a month. That leaves quite a bit... I could see maybe busting that cap every now and then, but it would be a somewhat atypical month for me. |

i do apologize if i missed anything, but i also hope that there ain't no limits set on my data since i changed to simply everything.
|
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
What kind of browsing are you guys doing that you would hit 5gb a month? Unless you tether to your phone every day and use it at work of course...

Yes, the "units" are in KB's, since that's how they bill ($0.03/KB) (have verified with some previous bills where my vision disapeared) 72,000KB is ~70mb 5gb/30days= ~170mb/day but like I've been saying, this is just a nasty rumor to get more ppl to drop sprint before they release 4G. Edit* also if they were that concerned about it, why don't they let you see your data history (graph), the way they do for anytime minutes and bill totals (billing trends). |
Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
I would imagine this is to get people signed up for a data card plan now that it is so easy to unofficially tether and use your phone as your modem. They want to monetize this. I have been using my phone as my primary modem since I moved a month ago (since I didn't feel like getting comcast--at least not right away.) If you can just download an app like WMWiFi and avoid paying tethering charges then what will stop everyone from doing it? I see what they are doing here and it sucks because the unlimited cheap fast data is their best point. Still, I would conceivably pay a little more for truly unlimited data over legit tether. It will still be cheaper than the $45 I would pay for Comcast.

Re: Sprint 5GB internet cap
ouch i'm at 16+ gigs for the month.. this is gonna be an adjustment for your boy!!!
