Opera Mobile 11 for Android out

Just a heads up, Opera Mobile 11 came out, and it works much, much better on my slow-ass TP2 than the official Android browser.

https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

With the stock Android browser, it'd frequently become non-responsive, and I'd have to wait forever until I could use a page. I haven't had a chance to fully run it through its paces, but Opera Mobile is much faster from having just tried it a bit, even without Turbo on. You can start interacting with the page almost immediately, and no pop ups yet for non-responsiveness.

An added plus is that with Opera Link, it carried over my bookmarks and settings from back in my WinMo days.

Thanks for the heads up. Hope it's better than the Opera Mini, which doesn't support javascript 100%.

Wirelessly posted (TP2: Opera/9.80 (Windows Mobile; WCE; Opera Mobi/WMD-50433; U; en) Presto/2.4.13 Version/10.00)

I couldn't get it to run.

There's no comparison to Opera Mini, which was made for Blackberry and other less powerful phones. When you visit a page in Mini it first goes to Opera's server, which strips it down into a lite version that Opera Mini can display (Blackberry's native web browser works the same way). Opera Mobile is a full blown web browser requiring no intermediate proxy server.

My main problem with Opera on TP2 Android is that it requires multitouch for zooming, while the native browser displays a + / - button. Hopefully that is remedied in Opera Mobile 11?

Yup, that's why I was stuck on stock until now as well, but thankfully, they added zoom buttons on version 11.

Wow, major improvement! I've always used Opera under WM 6.5, but couldn't use it much under Android because of the zooming issue. They must poll the device for multitouch and display the +/- if it doesn't have that capability. Sweet!!!

Opera 11 has hardware acceleration aka it uses the GPU...this may give benefit as it takes load off the CPU..

Actually thats what Turbo is...if you turn that on in the browser it uses Oepra servers to get content, compress it and send it..overall doesn't make much sense unless you got horrible signal.

you zoom in by hitting twice on the screen and do a zoom out whenhitting the back button on opera...you cna also use the directional arrows to emulate a mouse..which you can zoom in by hitting enter or 5 key

Just tested this out and I'm very impressed. I think it's slightly slower than dolphin mini browser but the flash supports is great!

I went to the Marketplace and noticed that my Opera Mini is also updatable to 6.0. I used to prefer the Mini. I guess I can try them both.
