i have been using my sim in india on a gsm network right since i bought the TP2.
I have booted in android a couple of times and no issues with network what so ever...
i do primarily stay on WM tho.
I havent sim unlocked my phone whatsoever...

Is there anyway to switch networks while in android now?

Yes, if you're on an XDAndroid build you can use the Wireless & Networks menu.

Edit - Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Network Mode
