Update Security Settings message with Exchange account on Froyo

I am the Exchange Administrator at my job. I have noticed recently that users whose phones have been updated to 2.2 Froyo are starting to receive a notification prompt to "Update Security Settings" every time they power on their device. Unless they accept this message, they never sync with the Exchange server (Exchange 2007 SP2). Now that I am running XDAndroid, I am experiencing the same issue.

We have an open policy on mobile devices on our Exchange System. Has anyone figured out what is going on here? I have searched around the web and the only workarounds that I have found are to install the Touchdown app or to flash to an earlier version of Android.

Re: Update Security Settings message with Exchange account on Froyo

I'm in IT (but I'm a Coordinator and Developer). Our Exchange Team does have a Phone Policy and my Windows Phone makes me adhere to it. When I boot to 2.2 Froyo - every time the "XDAndroid" reboots (whether from a self issue and just a restart) or from Windows into XDAndroid - I fight the "Update Security Settings" thing. Sometimes it'll take the first time I click on the Notification - other times it'll come two or three times before it goes away.

I posted about this on here somewhere - but didn't get much response. I was told to switch from Pattern Lock to Pin Lock - but that made no difference.

For what it's worth - I'm on Verizon.

Curious - which version are you using - Blazin or Reference? When I tried Blazin I couldn't get my Exchange to work at all. I went to Reference and can now echo your post symptoms exactly.

Also, do you have more info ont his Touchdown App? What does it do - does it stop this annoyance?

EDIT TO ADD: Here's the thread I started - but didn't gain any ground and I dropped it and just dealt with the annoyance. - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/tp2-androi...d-release.html

Re: Update Security Settings message with Exchange account on Froyo

I am noticing that I will get the "Update Security Settings" message multiple times, intermittently as well. I too am on Verizon and am using the Blazin release. I saw the recommendation to change to PIN lock. This did nothing for me.

I can verify that this issue is not limited to XDAndroid. I have seen this issue on Verizon DROID phones updated to 2.2. From what I have read, the Touchdown app solves this problem by taking over sync duties. I have not installed the app yet because I am trying to get the built in synchronization working for other end users in our compnay who are having this issue. Touchdown is a paid app. I am not sure of the cost offhand.

I am surprised this issue is not talked about more on the web. Here's to hoping someone sees this thread!
