help with project android launcher

I am able to install and run only once successfully on me tp2. Every time after this first time running the haret launcher I get a pop-up looking for default.txt script file on my storage card....

What gives?

Well, you could copy the startup.txt and rename it to default.txt...

Or just keep the startup.txt where ever you launch haret form... I've never had a problem so long as there's a valid startup.txt where I'm kicking off haret from.

BTW, you should use that little search button. It works wonders.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a shot.

P.S. I'm fully aware of the search button, hence the reason for the new thread as I did not find a related one.

This has happened to A LOT of people... Still not sure why tho. It happened to me once, and my startup.txt had been renamed to startup.txt~. I was pretty sure I didn't do it, but I've never had it happen since, so it was probably something I did.

Re: help with project android launcher

I have a sprint tp2 running energy rom and I'm having the same problem it will run once then I get a message saying Launch a script file. Default path is the same where the executable lives default.txt I have also done a lot of searching and this is the only thread I can find that explains my exact problem. I don't however understand the solution if there was one given here. My startup.txt file is in the andboot folder along with the mjgdroidutil and haret.exe. I thought maybe this thread was saying to rename the startup.txt file default.txt but I guess not because that didn't work. Please explain exactly how you solved this problem.

Re: help with project android launcher

Do you have a startup.txt file where you launch haret from??

I said copy it and rename the copy to default.txt. That way no matter what file it looks for, it'll boot.

However, this only happened to me when the startup.txt was renamed to startup.txt~. Again, not sure why that happened to me... or why it would happen to anyone else.

Re: help with project android launcher

While in Windows, use a registry editor to mark your startup.txt file as "Read Only". Just in case something is trying to edit that file when you boot Android.

I'm running into the same prob, and startup.txt is blank after I ran android and tried to get back into it. I'm going to do what demon said after I reload the startup.txt and see what happens.

I wonder what the heck is doing it. I had it happen once maybe twice where the startup.txt seemed to get modified, even tho I didn't make any changes...

This will certainly nip the issue in the bud, and is probably (no wait... definitely!) a much better suggestion than mine!

Re: help with project android launcher

Okay so I updated energy rom to the latest version today which gave me an oportunity to task 29 and delete all android files from storage and essentially start fresh with froyo 2.2 blaze. Same thing happened again after running the android utility the first time. I am some what of a noob when it comes to android on the tp2 but I think I can follow directions. Can someone explain this process like you are talking to a child. @arrrghhh you say to "copy startup.txt and rename it to default.txt or just keep the startup.txt where ever you launch haret from" I'm launching it from mjgdroidutil.exe in programs. I don't quite understand that statement. Also my startup.txt which is in storage card\andboot\ folder has not been changed to startup.txt~. Also where do you copy it too I hear to a different folder to the same folder. It would be helpful to have a step 1,2, and 3 type explanation because I'm just spinning my wheels. I also tried setting startup.txt to read only but that didn't work. I'm not sure if that is suppose to be done in addition to what already has been said or what. Help

You need to make the read-only adjustment BEFORE booting Android. Start with a new startup.txt, make that read-only. Then try again...

I wonder if MJGDroidUtil is causing the issue? I don't use it anymore, and haven't had the problem happen since...

Re: help with project android launcher

here is what worked for me (THANK YOU FISHINGMEDIC)
1) uninstall all android folders from sd and from remove programs (under settings)

2) reinstall the cab and do a soft reset.

3) BEFORE running android go to sd and find andboot folder

4) copy startup.txt file and put in a dif folder so you can rename it
to default.txt

5) copy the file you just renamed and paste it into your andboot folder

6) launch Android

Since doing this I have been able to get android to boot up everytime. If you get a screen that asks something about running default click on it and it will boot up for you.
Thank Fishingmedic for telling me step by step how to do it :hello2:

This problem is definitely being caused by MJGDroidUtil. Something about how it edits startup.txt causes the file to get wiped during the linux bootup. If you pay attention to the console you'll see something about it scanning the filesystem and finding a problem with the file. It then truncates the file to 0 bytes, deleting everything in it.
The solution is to manually edit the startup.txt with your keyboard layout and forcecdma options and run hatret manually.

Dude, you don't have to keep posting you can edit old posts at any time...

You need to modify your startup.txt to have that force cdma command in it... Assuming you're using a CDMA phone. Without the MJGDroid Utility, you have to modify the startup.txt manually... Just as TheMarshall already pointed out not 2 posts above yours.

Re: help with project android launcher

I am going to give what you guys say a try to boot android.
When i first install the cab, android works. But as soon as i update rootz, i get the default.txt pop up.
I am uninstalling android right now and gonna start over. Once i get into android and get the normal stuff working like data connection, is there anything tweaks, fixes, mods that i should do or is it included in this newest version of the cab. I remember when i first tried this, it was months ago and i couldnt load pictures or music cause android wouldnt search the card or it would say there was no SD card. I couldnt load programs cause of memory problems. Video wouldnt play. Then i remember reading about partitioning and such.
So after getting android to work, should i do anything tweaks, fixes, mods or just start using it?
Should i still only update roots or stop updating all together?

You can update any of the files, just DO NOT use the MJGDroidUtil. Update manually.

when you say MJGDroidUtil, you mean the screen that asks what type of phone you have and if i want to force CDMA? if so how do i update manually?
also what about the partitioning and any suggested tweaks, mods, fixes. Everything that not on the "not working list" should work?
edit* the screen alignment seems off. should i just realign? will that solve the problem? i remember this was an issue before

Yes, and there's several update locations. These are the ones I know:

zImage/modules
rootfs
initrd

You may want to do some more reading before you go jumping into anything tho...

Should is a very strong word :P There's some things that may still not work here & there, but for the most part it should all work. There's still random crashes and bugs, so it's not like the things that are working are flawless.

Delete the ts-calibration file and re-run. It'll ask you to recalibrate, be sure to watch it and do it! I think it times out and you'll be stuck with a completely uncalibrated screen.

Do NOT use the MGJDroidUtil!!!

You'll have to recreate your startup.txt, and if you stop using MGJDroidUtil, you should be fine.
