Android Data?

How do you Start a data connection on the droid system i recently intalled android on my touch pro 2 but when i goto the internet it says check to make sure your device has a signal and data connection and i have 3 bars but i cant get it to work i have made sure under mobile networks that data enabled is checked but it still does not work any suggestions?
