Overclocking TP2 in Android
What speeds is everyone else overclocking (if any), im using Calkulin's stipped rom and im pushing 1ghz and ive been using it for about an hour now. Every thing is stable, and I have no resets or errors. NOTE: I do not recommend overclocking if you do not have insurance as this might and probably will kill your phone. What other speeds is everyone getting? Using Benchmark found on the market im getting a result for cpu of 210.57872.

No offense to you but I find "Pushing 1Ghz" on a TP2 very hard to believe regardless of the OS. dwizzy130 |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
"Overclock capabilities - acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=XXXXXX - Replace X's with frequency in Khz not Mhz." I used 1000000, and ive used 900000 but 900000 gave me a cpu test result of 194.94551 through benchmark.

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
I am getting 850Mhz, anything above doesn't boot up.. at 850, the TP does perform much faster!

anything over 828 for me either freezes before booting or just restarts, energyRom here

Thats way better than my results which microsd card are you using. I think that has a huge factor... The bus between cpu and microsod is slowed i believe due to MicroSD speed. Does anyone else believe that? |

I for one am still learning about properly overclockig, but I am very intrested in overclocking my TP2 as this would be awesome to say the least. Ill keep looking over this weekend. |

You overclock the TP2 with a cmdline in the startup.txt. (as has been stated a couple times already) At the moment for GSM all it does is sleep to death, so we removed it. It seems to work just fine with CDMA. It used to work for GSM until we got the patch for WiFi working, then they don't seem to play well together. |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but whenever I try to overclock to any speed, it will restart the phone during haret. If I use the default startup without any changes, android runs fine. Here's what my startup looks like:
set RAMSIZE 0x6000000 set RAMADDR 0x10000000 set mtype 2292 set KERNEL zImage set initrd initrd.gz #pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000 set cmdline "msmvkeyb_toggle=off acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=768000 gsensor_axis=2,1,3 lcd.density=240 htc_hw.force_cdma=1 physkeyboard=rhod400" boot please someone tell me what is the problem or if someone is so kind to upload their startup(preferebly at 700 to 768mhz), I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
couple of questions...
does the phone maintain the higher clock speed after a reboot into windows? does is matter what ROM we might be running that might affect clock speed that android might be able to maintain? |

It's just like using a usb2.0 device on usb1.0 It's slower. Easiest example I can think of without getting technical or using terms I'd have to explain lol |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
I've been booting at 700MHz, tried 768 but had no luck. I just got 720MHz to boot successfully, so I'm probably just gonna bump it up 10MHz each time I boot to see how high I can get it. Don't think my CPU's gonna be as overclockable as some others have been. :(

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
I'm at 850 and it was working fine for a while, maybe 3 hours. Then it froze but came back after about 2 mins. I was at 800 before that for a whole day and no problems whatsoever. I would think 800mhz is safe, anything over and you may be pushing it a bit to much.

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
I'm trying to overclock my tp2 and i must be missing something. Here is my startup.txt:
Quote:
Android will boot up once i remove "acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=768000" from the file. As long as it is in, I get stuck on the linux screen or a KP error (Kernel Panic) -s |

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
You can try changing the number 768000(768Mhz) to something low 600000 (600Mhz).
Once you get it to boot, add 10Mhz(random number) to see if it boots up. then go your way up. I am able to run it at 850Mhz(850000). |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
anyone think this would work with rhobuntu

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
what sort of test results does stock clocks give?
Are we 100% certain the overclock is working? |

Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
hey maybe for poeple getting different and high clock speeds when you post please post the build date of your device also. maybe then we could see if maybe different devices have a slightly better clock then others

I'm using the 3/28/10 build from MACKIE with a class 2 16GB Sandisk card. EDIT: 760 works too. Maybe increments of 10 work better than other numbers. Doing more tests. EDIT2: 770 worked as well. Getting the feeling that 10 MHz increments are key here. |

825000 and screaming like a daemon! But it sucks up juice like it's going out of style! 03/28 Mackie

wow seeing how much people are pushing out of this originally 528mhz processor i wonder what are people gonna reach with the snapdragon on the HD2 its already 1ghz lets see what it can go up to lol |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
Overclocked at 768
Benchmark CPU score: 220.32057 running the official Mighty Rom 3.23.10 4gb san disk about half what the Moto Droid gets. |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
Not to be too rude, but it sounds like some of you need to read up on overclocking...
Basically, chip manufacturing is NOT an exact science - at least when it comes to clock speed. The rating on the chip is the recommended setting that the manufacturer is guaranteeing. It is usually much lower than what the chip will actually perform at. However, individual chips are not tested for the maximum rates, only that they perform at what they are supposed to. Therefore one chip that is rated at 528 Mhz may run at 700, 800, or even higher while another one rated at 528 may barely cap out at 600. The only way to know is to test it. Furthermore, running at higher rates also requires more power. You may get lucky and have a chip that can hit 900 or 1 Ghz, but it'll be draining your battery like nobody's business - and may even cause underlying calculation errors when processing. There's just no way to know. |
Re: Overclocking TP2 in Android
any one know what im doing wrong... everytime i try adding the overclock command i get unknown keyword error.
