Read the post in this forum No Data for Dummies. Basically, the APN trick creates a data connection.

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [7/01] FROYO BETA ADDED!

After running an update last night on the Froyo Beta build, each time I try to boot into Android, my first screen is the lock screen. After two seconds in the lock screen, the phone reboots back into WM. Ideas? Should I uninstall the Froyo Beta and go back to Sense 2.1?

try to format your SD card and re-install froyo. If that doesn't help, then 2.1 is probably a good idea. I didn't have any problems w/ froyo. YMMV

FWIW, I had to use the APN trick as well (on Sprint) but didn't on the previous 2.1 ext2 version.

Once it fully loads up though, this version seems notably faster/smoother.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but is there a good way to backup installed apps and settings when switching to a newer Android built?
Thanks in Advance, I am loving Android.

It's all stored in your data.img file, as long as you don't delete that, you should be fine :)

In most cases this issue usually ends up being something with your Storage Card. Try a full (not quick) format to FAT32, or try a different SD card if you have the option.

I had Data working with 2.1 just installed 2.2 which is working so much smoother by the way. Can't get the data working (can make calls though) I've tried the APN trick, restarted multiple times still no data.

Anyone get 2.2 working on US Cellular?

Nevermind, after moving all the files to the root of the SD card and rebooting data is now working.
