I'm not sure if this is the solution but this is what I did: after booting up for the first time using the FRX04/1253 bundle I created, I just set up my voicemail number and gmail account and let everything sync up; then I opened Market and let all the updates (gmail, google map, google voice, etc) download and install completely; I then downloaded the Zeam launcher and use it as the default launcher. Now whenever I boot up again, I don't get any sluggishness or even FCs... I don't even wait to let it settle down, as soon as I see the clock updates with the correct time and the Sprint network is available, I slide to unlock and it just works with fast speed and smoothness.

I'm going to update the bundle to include all the latest Market download updates as well as the Zeam launcher in the system.ext2 image; hopefully it will install them on the first boot so Market doesn't have to download them.

ndno, keep up the great work... I refuse to put anything on my tp2 unless its from your signature. Big thanks!!!

fish, it's very simple. Those were left there as intended. Just extract, copy to your SD card, and boot as is (I mentioned that in the first section), it will boot with the 1253 kernel, which is the latest stable kernel (no camera). Do your normal setup (you don't need to touch the APN settings for Sprint, it's already there, I tweaked them to prevent the sluggishness and FCs).

If you want to use the camera capability, follow the directions in the second section (UPDATE bold part) to rename the STARTUP.TXT and froyo.user.conf files and you will boot up with viruscrazy latest camera kernel/library. That's it.

Don't worry, they can both reside in the same folder. That the reason I have 2 STARTUP.TXT files, one for the 1253 kernel (just references zImage) and one for the camera kernel (which references zImage.camera). Like I say, just do the steps in the first set of instructions with the andboot.frx04 folder as is to get stuff going; then if you want to use the camera, follow the renaming steps in the second section to swap to the camera kernel.

By far the simplest camera directions ever... however, vignette will open, but will only display a black image.

I have the same problem, but I'm running the stock sprint ROM.

Winmo rom shouldn't impact the install at all. How are you guys formatting your sd cards? You need to use sd card formatter or the hp tool. I don't have links available right now, but if you search you will find them easily. Do not use the formatting tool on the phone or any other windows one. I personally have used sd formatter and the hp tool and no issues with them. Also, are you trying to boot while plugged in? I for some reason can't ever get the phone to boot to android while plugged into the wall charger, but try formatting again with a decent formatting tool and see what that does.

Definitely seems odd.

Are all of you guys installing from the cab? Is that what's failing? I guess I'm not sure what they all mean by the bars filling and then saying unsuccessful. Sounds like the CAB install failing... try the RAR, IMHO it's easier and it's definitely faster.

Yeah I wasn't sure about the bars thing either. +1 on the RAR file, since I took your recommendations about using the RAR, I understand a hell of a lot more now!

OK, I got an all-in-one FRX04 package with the 1253 kernel OCed at 710Mhz if anyone wants to try out. It resides in the "andboot.frx04" folder and is setup based on that folder so don't rename it. Here's the link: andboot.frx04.kernel1253.oc.camera.7z

With findings and hints from Tiad8 and manekineko, I "think" finally got it to work with fast speed and without the sluggishness and FCs. The default APN xml enclosed in the FRX04 system.ext2 seems to have settings (at least for Sprint) that is causing the sluggishness after booting up; I edited that xml file for Sprint to set the APN name to "sprint" and APN to "#777" and it's no longer sluggish nor getting FCs after booting up. For Verizon and other carriers, if it's sluggish, do the voicemail dialing trick and go change the APN settings (you can search Tiad8's threads for APN settings to use for your carrier) to get rid of the sluggishness. Here are the simple instructions for the package I uploaded:
  1. Download andboot.frx04.kernel1253.oc.camera.7z to temporary folder on your PC
  2. Extract it; it will contain the folder "andboot.frx04"
  3. Copy the "andboot.frx04" folder to your SD card
  4. In WinMo, navigate to the "andboot.frx04" folder and run haret.exe
  5. Be patient on the first boot and let it settle a few minutes when you see the slider or home screen.
  6. Open Spare Parts and change End button behavior to go to home
  7. Goto to Settings - Call setting and set up your voice mail number, make a test voicemail call
  8. Goto Settings - Sound. Test the volume settings, test phone ringtones and notification ringtone
  9. Goto Settings - Display-Brightness. Select Auto to save battery
  10. Goto Settings - Applications- Enable unknown sources
  11. Goto Settings - Setting account & sync and add your gmail account. Let the phone sync. Do not touch. Wait for green light
  12. Launch the Market and let it download updates to the existings Google apps and install them; don't not touch until are updates have been installed
  13. You're now good to go

UPDATE: I just added viruscrazy's 01/23/2011 latest test camera kernel/library to the all-in-one package. It's not active at all but if you want to try it (remember this is just a test kernel so it won't be as fast or stable as the 1253 kernel above), just follow these instructions:
  1. Do the setup above first to get everything stable and solid
  2. Boot back into WinMo and use Total Commander to go to the "andboot.frx04" folder and do the following:
    • Rename startup.txt to startup.1253.txt
    • Rename startup.camera.txt to startup.txt
    • Rename conf/froyo.user.conf to conf/froyo.user.conf.1253
    • Rename conf/froyo.user.conf.camera to conf/froyo.user.conf
  3. Run haret.exe under "andboot.frx04" folder and you now have camera capability (use the Vignette software)

@Tiad8, I borrowed a few APKs (Vignette, TitaniumBackup, Angry Birds) from one of your system.ext2. Hope you don't mind :)

This package is not as fast as the Jan.12.2011 Froyo X distribution by Tiad8 but it's almost there and is pure FRX04 based (except for a couple of very minor settings change - a change in build.prop mentioned by manekineko for speed, a Sprint entry change in the APN xml to resolve the sluggishness problem). It's pretty stable and responsive.

NOTE: Again, the package is tailored for Sprint so adjust the STARTUP.TXT for your carrier.

Thank you for putting this together NDNO. Works great for me

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [01/23] FRX04 Reference!

I've been using an early build of Tiads and never have any FC's and almost no slow downs. Maybe one every few days. I have not upgraded for weeks since it works so good. Battery life is great, about a full day of heavy use (about 10 hrs), camera, kb lights, Angry Birds, etc. all works great.

I'm not sure of the system source files though. The kernal shows "2.6.27.46-01214-g351b39d-dirty" jerome@localhost #87

Just sharing what is working for me.

Oh, Quadrant is 564 and Neocore is 18.7
