this happened to me too for a while. i ended up formatting the card and it got into the linux bootloader. but then it would loop and loop and loop until i swapped out the card. the one that wasnt working was a 4gb kingston microsd HC class 4

Betcha anything your bad SD card wasn't partitioned properly. And re-formatting generally doesn't delete partitions which is why re-formatting didn't work for you

...which probably means that you had an extended partition that had a logical partition within it. Haret only wants to see the one partition
