The security is not the problem. I've switched my home network between wpa2 and open and there are many other networks in range that are all different (wep, wpa2, etc). My problem is that android cannot scan for networks. It has never found one network. It either reports "unable to scan" or says "scanning" indefinitely or does nothing.

Making calls were fine. Getting to the net was a problem. I removed the SIM from my phone. followed the steps to "select Automatically from the billionth post with specific instructions and immediately got a "registered on the network" message. Opened the browser, but no internet connection. Changed my WIFI network from WEP to No Security, for testing. Still not picking up my wireless router SSID.

Looks like it was just as Makkonen suspected, that's just the Kernel source. Nothing for the RIL (at least not as far as I could find, but I haven't delved too deeply into development yet as I don't have the environment set up for it...) which is really what we need for reliable CDMA (voice) and EVDO (data) connections.

The "select automatically" option is for connecting to a cellular network. Once you connect to that, all you will be able to do is make/receive phone calls as the cellular data connection hasn't been figured out yet.

However, the second part you said is the problem I'm having. My android TP2 isn't picking up any wireless routers and I've tried in multiple different locations. Do you see any networks or just not yours (assuming there are other networks in range)?

I was thinking about trying out the GSM version of android for TP2. I know its probably the same wifi driver/settings but I thought I'd give it a shot. Will running the GSM version cause damage to my CDMA phone? Honestly, I'd rather have a data connection than the ability to make/receive phone calls.

Re: [2/27/2010] Google Android for TP2 CDMA [In Dev]

Has anyone found any kind of workaround to get the market working, or are we waiting for a new release to hopefully fix the problem?

I went back a few pages but saw no reference to market at all, don't have the time this morning to slog through 20+ pages=P

Try totally cleaning off and reformatting your card to fat32, install android, and before you boot up reboot your phone, start wifi in winmo, make sure it can connect there, and leave it connected. That gives proof of concept, then boot android, and see if it see's the network.

and fyi, no a gsm version can not do damage to your phone.

No fix yet, and at this time don't bother with market enabler, it is meant for a different issue then what we currently have.

No. Market does not work yet. Nor does data.

As an FYI...it takes less time to do a search than slog through 20 pages.

Also, depending on how fast you type...it also may take less time searching then posting a question that has been asked so many times.

Time wise that one is kinda iffy, unless you can find the absolute latest posts on it, you still might be left wondering if someone found a solution and you just missed it or search missed it... I do understand the asking of the question.

Check out the following link
http://www.androidonhtc.com/rhodium/port_status

It's pretty up to date.
The status of the items is for both GSM and CDMA, but most items mention if they don't work with CDMA

(It does me, anyway -- if I'm out and about, and see an open wifi network, I will jump on it if I need to access something. But, as wide open as WEP is, I'm not going to hack it, even knowing that I could without much effort.)

The first google result for 'WEP nexus one' has a good suggestion, though. Dump the WEP, and just use MAC address filtering.
lol ya, I didn't say I go around cracking people's WEP keys.
I know alot of people that just pain don't know how vulnerable WEP is.
I also know alot of people that are "straight-laced" citizens but they enjoy cracking WEP to get that internet connection if it's better than the others.
And I'd have to say there is a good chance there's a bad person that is gaining access to your router if you live in a bigger city.

I didn't even think of the older items though that don't have WPA capabilities.

agreed. if it somehow bypassed the boot of WM, then it would be cool.
