A500 won't "unbrick"

I bought this tablet for my wife, after 2 days she tried to update it and it crashed during that update.(it will boot up, won't charge past 15%, and you can't unlock the screen)... I came across the un-bricking thread on this forum, but I can't get past step 3... when I boot with power+vol, and it says it's recovering update.zip.. it shows the andriod guy and gets about 30% through then stops and an "!" comes up in the middle of the andriod. Should I RMA this tablet, or is there something i'm doing incorrectly.
