Re: Android on HD2 updates + ROMs + Builds

Played with FroyoStone (with limited Sense) all day today, works really well!

A couple questions:
1. I still have the garbled sound issue. All sound coming through the phone is robotic etc and I can't hear anything.
2. When you go back to WinMo, the time and date are always screwed up. Does this happen to you guys? And then do you have to manually set the time? Shouldn't the phone pick up the date and time from the network automatically when I connect to T-Mo?

Thanks!

PS - I'm running Omega 4.1 ROM with 2.12.50.02_2 radio.

Re: Android on HD2 updates + ROMs + Builds

I don't have the robotic sound issue anymore...I'm using Dutty's ROM with 2.10.50.26...

Some builds give me the messed up time issue but this one doesn't (FroyoStone w/Sense)...

Hmm ok I guess I'll try that build, these are definitely fun to play with.

Also - I see some posts about swapping out zimages etc, what exactly is this for? Forgive me, I'm an android noob.

the "zimage" contains the build information, the newer ones have more code.

If you swapped out your current zimage with one from 2 weeks ago, you wouldn't have a charge indicator and you'd have constant SOD. So if you are experiencing certain issues, just get a newer/different zimage and it might work better for you, that way you don't have to go using a whole different ROM.

I am on FroyoStone with the zimage I attached a few posts back, and it works like a freaking dream :)

Oh wow so you're saying that if I had everything setup with my accounts etc and then I swapped out my old zimage for a new one, I would keep all my settings but just be replacing the system files? If yes, then that's freaking amazing!

I'm using FroyoStone Sense right now, seems awesome so far. Voice is still robotic though.. I think it's my 2.12 radio probably :(

Also - does anyone know why there is no voice button on the keyboard on any of these froyostone builds? That was one of the big features I wanted but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the settings. I know I've found it before on a stock Nexus One but nothing in these builds as far as I can tell.

Kumars HD2 GTX WinMo rom

+

Energy's Froyostone build

+

Radio 2.12.50.02

=

No sound issues
No sleep of death
Battery lasted me almost all day...unplugged at 9am and needed to charge it around 5. Not great but certainly good.

that's because "Sense UI" uses the HTC keyboard, you need the Android 2.1 keyboard with voice, search for an APK it's pretty easy to find.

But the desire and evo both use the Sense keyboard and they have the voice button right? I've tried the default Android keyboard and it's terrible compared to htc's imo.

Another question - when I first log in to android and set everything up and eventually go back to windows, i can't seem to go back to android anymore.. clicking on haret starts up the boot process but then it says no rootfs found and starts an fsck on the memory card which takes hours before i give up and finally pull the battery. Any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks!

some people report this. I have never had this problem.

apparently if you delete the Android files and extract again it works fine. Which ROM are you having this issue on?

Also, I have been on Energy ROMs while using Android on HD2 and I don't have most of the reported problems, so maybe switch to Energy.

Yeah this happens to me every single time no matter which build I use. I always have to delete and start over, have never been able to boot back in to Android a second time and keep my data yet :( I'm using the Omega 4.1 ROM with 2.12 radio.

Good to know! Maybe it's my SD card that's fubared? I'll try formatting it and loading on Android, hopefully that will help.

Everytime I go back to windows I have the same issue with the rootfs file. I'll just keep deleting the android folder as it will take less time than formatting the sd.

Man I thought I was the only one this was happening to! Really glad to hear I'm not crazy heh. Any ideas on how to avoid this? It sucks to have to delete all the Android files because it's pretty much like hard resetting the android ROM, everything goes back to what it would be like on a fresh flash and you have to start over.. Can't ever enjoy android for too long :(

guys i think the culpret may be mskips android launcher try running haret right off the sd card make sure you press clrcad first for sound and see if that helps

also you can try his new loader v4 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733752

I didn't even know there were any "loaders".. I always run clrcad and then haret directly off the memory card straight from the File Explorer. I think formatting the card is probably the next thing to try, I'll report back.

Re: Android on HD2 updates + ROMs + Builds

From the froyostone thread: (for the rootfs problem when you can't get back in to android the second time)

Delete the Android folder. With the system files directly on the root of the card, if an Android folder is present, the boot-up will try to find rootfs inside it and will stop booting because it can't find it. Without the Android folder, the boot-up will look directly at the root of the card and find all it needs to boot.

You'll need to delete the folder each time you boot back into Android because Google Maps creates it for its data files. But it is safe to delete it."

Worked great for me! I'm back in Android baby :)

You don't have to delete all the android files to get back in. In the root of the sd card there will be one folder titled "Android" which needs to be deleted. Even with deleting it, your entire setup will stay intacted.

ok,

hot off the press, if you replace your zimage and startup.txt with the one's I've attached, you get to use all 512MB ram, after hitting the ATK widget, it's showing 300MB ram free on my HD2, and everything is running faster/smoother.

this zimage is undervolted 925mv and overclocked to 1.113ghz with full ram,

basically saves battery and runs faster/smoother. I'm about to try it out.

(grabbed from here)

use setcpu to set the clock speed :)

edit: just tried it, OC to 1.113 it works beautifully, best zimage so far IMO

edit2: you have to use the startup.txt from the post above t his one, otherwise android won't boot.

Re: Android on HD2 updates + ROMs + Builds

If you plan on using Android for daily use use this method / rom. This is a tutorial on how to install a good rom and radio properly and a dual boot screen for Android / Windows mobile.

pre-requisite: FORMAT YOUR SD CARD TO FAT 32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:protest::protest::protest:

your device MUST be unlocked with HSPL

and you have to know how to flash roms and radios and recover your device if you break it

bearing that in mind, let us continue...

(this method has had my phone running android non stop with energys froyostone with no issues save its not the greatest on battery but still lasts a day. it's all about the rom and the version of froyostone you have.)

_______

1) Run a Task 29 on your phone.

2) Flash Kumar's HD2 Rom to your phone. Pick any one you like, I use GTX.

3) Hard reset your device.

4) Flash Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2

5) Download Energy's Android Froyostone

6) Extract just the folder called "Android" to the root of your FORMATTED SD card.

7) Using total commander on your device navigate to the Android folder and right click on CLRCAD.exe and click "OPEN". Nothing will happen, but as long as you tapped open that is fine.

8) Now open haret.exe...this will start Android :)

9) Don't use android just yet. Restart your device (hold down power button, turn off, turn back on)

10) This will ensure that your device boots smoothly and android will not have little bugs. Go into the settings in windows mobile and disable sense from the home screen.

11) Download JMZ's HD2 Android Dual Boot Cab and install it to your phone.

12) Reboot your device

13) You're done! if you boot into windows you can turn sense back on manually. If you leave it enabled the only drawback is that it takes about 20 seconds longer to boot and everyone says it also causes other bugs, so i highly recommend leaving it like this.

_____________

This is EXACTLY what I did and I've been using that build of Froyostone non stop since it came out. Good battery, no bugs.

lol, I hear ya.

What I've noticed is it runs a lot faster, and does not get hot. I played Bonsai Blast for like 2 hours straight yesterday, it only used like 35% battery and it never got above 39C on the battery temp (which is really good). It stays generally from 25C to 32C, and I have anywhere from 200-300MB free ram

Use Kumar's rom and you'll have no issues with dual boot. I push my device to the bleeding limit with everything and Kumar's rom is def. the most stable.

Thanks for the startup and haret links

well i was using JMZ dualboot ver 1 too, so maybe he updated it, I'll try it out again.

Benn having nothing but awesomeness on NRG Roms, so I'll stick with what works for me for now, I am also using a radio that I have never seen recommended, but works perfectly.

Using the zImage for 925mv and overclocked to 1.113ghz caused my wifi not to work.

Again I'm on kumars rom and have the 2.12.50.xx radio

Gonna switch back to default energy zImage for now.

You probably already know this but...
I've noticed that the full screen 30 day calendar causes the home screen to lag a lot, dont use the full screen calendar widgets and you should immedietally see a great speed increase on the home screen. Just figured I'd recommended that because I ALWAYS kept it there assuming it was nothing but compared to every other widget, the calendar takes up the most memory by far.

APN: wap.voicestream.com

(leave user name and pw blank)

MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms

MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080

also, let's search the XDA android hd2 dev forum for workable settings as well as trial/error and post them here for easy finding so we can plug them in to any new ROMs.

Re: Android on HD2 updates + ROMs + Builds

I just tried a TON of combinations and nothing works, then i ran across this...

"I have tried all builds and it seems that I am able to send and receive with the sense builds but the pics re degraded. With senseless builds I am unable to send. However I have noticed that they all have the following missing field in common.

MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0

This seems to be missing on them all and I feel that if it was supplied then we TMOUS users would not have this issue."

Maybe that's the key, some builds i notice the MMS protocol and some don't have it...

I had it working on previous builds and the mms protocol was there.

Just tried sending one on the latest build using the zImage from post #224 and it hasn't been received. I am using the sense build and it does have the mms protocol and all mms settings but got nowhere.
