Thumbs up Google Voice Search with Voice Actions

Didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd post it here.

Android 2.2 users, search for "Voice Search" on the Market Place. Google just released today a new version for Froyo users with the new "Voice Actions" feature. Pretty cool stuff!

Here is a video explaining the features:

Re: Google Voice Search with Voice Actions

Many people on custom ROMs will not be able to update Voice Search. To do so, delete /system/voicesearch.apk and then reboot your device. Then open the Market and download the new version.

Google Voice is an app for their service that allows you to have a personalized number from Google, get transcriptions of your voisemails, etc. More on that can be found here.

The Voice Search is what allows you to speak a search phrase into the phone and it will search for you (i.e. Internet, contacts, emails, etc). The new voice actions allow you more control over your phone.

Play with it. The application does not produce the same results that the video is displaying. In fact, I told it to call Costco Waipio and it displayed a Costco on the mainland. Not too hot. It is fast though, and that's about it.

Re: Google Voice Search with Voice Actions

Hey guys, I am on a Simple-rooted, deodexed OTA 2.2 Rev2 from TMArtin. I tried using root explorer and estrongs file manager to delete the voice search apk, but it says that the apk is read only and cannot be deleted. is there another way? Thanks
