In Texas, only one "party" needs to be aware...and that "party" is me. I am not legally required to tell the person on the other end of the line.

Yes and on a federal level its legal for them to record without either party knowing

Actually, Federal law says that in an interstate call, the laws of both states have to be observed. So if you are calling from a "who cares" state to a strict state, you have to honor the laws of the stricter state that you are calling. Otherwise, the Feds don't care either way. And in reality, they would never get involved.

Perhaps Boo Boo forgets about Linda Tripp recording Monica Lewinsky talking about the "stained" dress.

Why is it that EVERY time someone mentions in-call recording, some self-proclaimed recording police come in and start spouting off about laws and notifying third parties?

Download vRecorder from the Market, it WORKS!!!!! Only caveats are that it records in 3gpp format (plays on Quicktime player on a PC) and that the other person's volume is much lower than yours unless you put it on SpeakerPhone. Strangely enough, you can't even click on the files from Astro or whatever file explorer you use without an error message, but can play them back from within vRecorder. Perhaps there is an app in the Market that will play the files too, haven't looked yet. I'm too busy dancing naked around the house, this was a huge feature I wanted.

It also doesn't label them the way ACR did, with the Contact name, etc.

Bey HEY, at least it's possible and WORKS!!!!! Given that is works, someone hopefully will make a better interface, etc.

Actually, if long tap and hold it comes up as "Play With" or "Open With" and I've been able to play it with the built in media player then.

Forget this advice. It depends on the state YOU are in, not just the other person. NY/NJ for example have the law that states only one party has to know and that party can be you.

Yes, self-proclaimed phone calling police, if only they'd not use blanket statments about "federal" law which doesn't exist for phone calls. And, the advice about the "stricter" state's laws prevailing, good luck with that one.

This software is a non-starter. Read any of the reviews on the AndoLib site, you'll uninstall it or think twice about installing it in the first place any way.

Sounds like a whole bunch of loop-holes to me...

Give Phone Recording v1.0 a try... It doesn't automatically record the call but gives you a pop-up everytime you make or receive a call asking if you'd like to record. A simple Yes or no and then you can answer the phone... Works pretty good so far...

Can't remember where I found it and wasn't able to find it on the Market or find any information via Google so I am assuming it is a free app... There's no usage rights or licensing info listed anywhere in the app either...

Here are the details:
Name: Pocket Recording
Version: 1.0
Developer: Yabin Lu
eMail: Naolin@126.com

Hope you like!

Edit: BTW, same deal with the recordings... Volume for the party on the other end is much lower... Recordings save as .amr and automatically save to sdcard/cr folder... Files are titled as Phone Number>Date>time and playback can be preformed outside of the application using the HTC player... Haven't tried to transfer to PC and play using WM Player...

It's not a flexible as ACR, which I used everyday, but it works fine. That's MY review, and this belongs back in the EVO forum, as this was an Evo-specific and 2.1 specific issue. Any pre-2.1 phone had plenty of call recording choices, and most of the Evo users came from the TP2's, which was unique among recent WM phones in having the ability, and was one feature many dreaded losing.

Great, I'll try it. The choice to save it or not is a step in the right direction. Having it save the contact name, or the phone number, as part of the file name is something we should as the developer to incorporate, like on ACR on the TP2. A choice of file type to save as would really make it sweet.

Even in states that do care I don't think that this is really something that police are enforcing.
