GPSToday has a background mode that runs at around 700k so battery drain should not be an issue.

Edit: Ok, I figured that part out, and I like it, but of course just my luck it is messing with my pocketshield program. It switched it from the theme I had to the main earth one (the one that says "slilide to unlock" lol). When I try to go to change back the theme in pocketshield, I get an error now. I love them both, I cant choose, help! |
what you'll want to do in order to get the initial fix is tap and drag the satellite icon at the bottom over to either the stopwatch or map icon. after that, a green dot should appear next to the satellite. the means that it is searching for satellites. tapping the stopwatch will let you select the fix interval.
as far as pocketshield goes, i'm not familiar with that program so i wouldn't be the most qualified person when it comes to fixing it. my best suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall.
