I used to have the HTC Touch Vogue and I remember playing around with a theme creator program. The program would have a color pallet for all the parts of the theme that was being created including lines being displayed between today plugin items. I think the theme files are .tsk. Maybe you could try a theme editor to see if that solves your problem.
