I think the thing that is difficult for lots of folks to grasp (and hasn't really been mentioned much) is that the ROM will always take up the same amount of space (40MB) no matter what is in it. Removing this program from ROM will not free up any space, because the ROM file is ALWAYS the same size when it's installed and, hence, the amount of free memory is always the same after a hard reset. This is why the kitchens are so nice, because you can add stuff to the ROM space that would normally take up your user program memory, essentially freeing up more space. The drawback, of course, is revision changes...
