SERO Transfer

So this guy local to me wants to part with his SERO plan for...get this, FREE!
Anyway, I contacted Sprint and they told me that in order to take the SERO plan I have to cancel my own plan with an ETF. Is this true? I really wanted to jump on this, but I'm not prepared to pay $200.
