The size of the ROM cooking community is really more a reflection of the high sales seen by the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro.
And let's not leave the device maker and carriers thinking they should not provide official updates. Their versions are the ones covered by your warranty
. So many large businesses especially are not going to dabble with customized ROMs.
And just because ROM cooks make improvements and fixes, does not mean the device maker and carrier can't come up with an improvement not already done. There's always room for something else new. Even the smallest new thing can be leveraged in other custom ROMs.
Getting more support from the maker and carrier is only a good thing.
