Unable to get cdma to connect via usb

OK. I have searched until my eyes are red and my wife is beginning to think I have love the pc more than her. I have a titan 6800 and Acer laptop with winxp pro installed. I downloaded cdma workshop and qpst. Both apps want a comport to connect to the phone. Windows willnot show a usb as com. I found a little data saying in qpst to just try usb1, usb2, etc until it connects.
After several days of trying, no go. I then installed olipro 2.40 and RUU_signedBBS21806B. THis is a custom win7 ROM. On the laptop in Device manager the phone is seen as "Windows Mobile-based device" under network devices.

I need help getting my PC to see the phone in qpst or cdma. Is there a driver for xp that will make the Windows Mobile-based device be seen as a usb device?
