Clearing an ESN without paying the rest of someone else's bill is something that's somewhat not so logical, so if you're still having a problem trying to get it activated, then there's no other loophole than to make the previous owner cowboy the eff up and take care of the mess for you instead of sweeping stuff under the rug. Problem solved and thread closed.
