After reading so many stories about how idiotic Verizon is being on this issue, I would *highly* recommend against asking a Vzn rep to add the MEID of a phone that is already working. You would just be tempting fate IMHO, and almost *begging* Vzn to ban your phone as well. If you really want to help your friend social engineer his phone into the database, I would recommend calling them yourself, with him, and his account holder sitting next to you, and claim to be a technician (private consultant, or whatever you want to say) contacting them on behalf of your client. And try to work it that way.

As for switching to ATT for the Touch HD, that just really makes no sense to me honestly, considering that in the tests I have seen, it performs slightly less well than a Diamond, or a Pro, and is significantly more bulky as well. Barely seems worth the tradeoff for the extra 160 pixels in length on the display. Not enough to warrant slaving yourself to ATTs sup-par "3G" network for a couple years, especially with WiMax already in testing, and Metro coverage just around the corner.
Wait a month or two, the Diamond 2 is slated to arrive at Sprint next month, and Im sure that Vzn won't be far behind, and its the same res screen as the HD, but in a smaller, lighter, more powerful package.

And to proactively ward off the "anti ATT hate" flames, I am speaking from experience as a private consultant myself, as well as having friends all across the country with a mix of all of the big four. ATT has the biggest coverage blanket, but its old and showing its wear. If you want to be as confident as possible that you will be able to at least have voice service even out in the boonies, then ATT is the way to go (barely TBH, with the roaming agreements all the carriers have now) but thier data network is pretty spotty, to put it mildly, and even if you *can* get HSD support at the tower, chances are *very* good that the tower itself is only fed by a T1, which is truthfully not really sufficient for even one 3G connection, let alone an entire cell. Oh, and btw, this is in the City I am talking about, dont want to even *think* about rural/wilderness areas.

Just to site a recent example: A programmer friend of mine and I ran tests a few days ago against our two providers, around 7-8pm, and he was getting 180-230 Kbit, and once spiked to *almost* 1Mbit on his iphone3G, whereas I ranged from 1.8-2.6Mbit on my TP, and I had only 1-2 bars signal strength. Both phones reported a 3G connection throughout the entire period. Sorry ATT, but it doesnt matter that your device has a little 3G icon on it, if your cell doesnt even have 3G throughput to it....

Sorry to go on about it, but I just have very little respect for a network so bad, that 70% of the time I can tell that the person I am talking to on the other end is on it, even though I have never even met them before... :P

No offense intended at all, but why dont you just leave Verizon? The way they are treating this issue would certainly be grounds for termination for me. I don't know what their early termination fee is, or how much run around they will give you, as I have never had to do it, but last I heard, Sprint's is less than $90 so I can't imagine Vzn being much more than that. And if your term is up, then so much the better!
A few weeks ago, I was about a day or two from going to Cricket myself if Sprint didnt find a solution to my problem, and while there was actually only one CS rep I had to even point that out to, it sure changed their attitude real quick!
