Twikini seems to be a solid client that supports twitpic as well. I was using that when Pocketwit was really bad for me. While I do agree that there are issues with the infrastructure on Twitter/Twitpic's side - the client does play a big part of it. The scrolling side to side can be a little irritating sometimes.
