I would try using opera browser to download stuff. Sounds weird I know, but I usually use skyfire but for some reason I have trouble downloading with it sometimes.
Also, exactly what do you mean by nothing worked? It didn't download? Wouldn't install? Also, it might help if we knew what ROM and OS you have.
