I found that this happens often. Very often.
A workaround is to assign a hardware key to the keyboard using Settings/Buttons. IE set camera hold to the keyboard; when it is needed (in
any app) just hold the camera button and the keyboard will appear.
I cannot remember who posted the original workaround. If I do I'll edit this post to give him credit.
