How can I lower the volume for the entire phone, not through volume controls on the left side?

My volume is too loud when it's all the way up and you can hear the sound is crackling its so loud. I have to have the volume at 50% just to hear people clearly, but then it's a little quiet... Is there a registry hack for that?
