You are probably using one of the unsupported Mini-SD cards.

This site: http://esc180.midphase.com/~chillaxi/?page_id=268 says:

- Apparently 2GB Kingston Micro SD’s throw an IO error, dunno why, will look into it laters

and I own a 2GB Patriot brand card that behaves the same way. I get similar messages to yours when I use it and it kick me out to a shell prompt. Then, I bought a Patriot 2GB Micro-SD card with Mini-SD and SD adapters and it works properly. Fry's told me that Patriot ofer rebrands Kingston RAM and that probably applies to SD flash chips also.

Get another Mini-SD card. It a gorgeous interface. Nothing interesting work on this version but that will hopefully change soon. I have some time this summer and I will probably do some work on it.
