i previously switched out the OEM for Volume from another kitchen and it gave me a stock white looking volume control, conflicting with the 3D taskbar icons. While i could only get it to work after enabling HTC phone pad.

I'm going to try this fix in a while... If this works, it should be bumped/stickied, as this has been a problem w/6.5 forever.
Trying to fix weirdness w/status icons now: my battery and data connection icons are cutoff; reg. entry of sorts.
