Ok! As you know, I have never ever seen that error message before now..{LOL} The software below is called the "SoftKeyApplet.zip, extract it on your TP to the widows folder, it will create a icon on the "System icon page" called "Soft Key".... With this tool, you can map either of your softkeys to just about anything on your TP, give it a shot....
I believe a bad flash is the cause if this, when you are flashing these 6.5 ROM's, you need to come off a clean stock ROM first and a hard reset before installing the cooked 6.5 ROM, just a good tip, let me know how things work out for you, we will get this problem fixed....
