Yes, I hear ya. It sounds like you're familiar with customizing MS...
Basically, what the inject does is add the contents of the file
TheWidgetToInject.xml to the Widgets.xml file - which resides inside
qa_layouts.dat.
You've probably done this plenty of times. No need to add the registry entries - that part is done by the installer.

I'm perplexed as to why it's not working for some folks. If you have time, would you mind running the cecmd.exe file inside the WP-Activate install directory - to see if it even runs?
Plus: What's your device, version of windows mobile, custom rom?
