The push internet is designed for people who turn off their data connections. When your data connection is on it will download the pages on the opera tab at specified intervals. Then even when you are offline you will be able to view those pages.

Turning off push internet will have no effect what so ever if you are always online (other than the already noted battery savings.)

NB: It will not effect push email
