I haven't been keeping up with all the development for the 800w lately but one good solution is to use TreoAlerts and set it up to repeat the sound notification and the vibration. You can set the periods for anywhere from every second to minutes between intervals. Of course, if you leave phone unattended for any length of time and you get a SMS it could kill your battery.

Ah that is a shame, the low volume is going to be a deal breaker for me then. I had just gotten over the battery issue too but problems just seem to come up as one is solved. Back to my 700wx til something without all these un-addressed issues comes out.
