Look at Lordshadowz FAQ. He's got a ton of info regarding the GPS, with a focus on Verizon. As far as the "My Location" thing, I don't think I've ever gotten it to work. However, if you select "Use GPS" from the menu, it will find you.
If someone does have the "My Location" working, please post about it. I never tried really hard to use it because I either use tomtom or put google maps in satellite view so I can watch myself drive down the road.
