You shouldn't have to install anything with Vista, it has Windows Mobile Device Center built-in. If you want to remove Widgets (not permanently, but off of the bar at least) click on the settings Widget (looks like a gear and a wrench I believe, it's at the top), then find the one you don't want, and un-check it. You can uninstall them if you added them, using "delete mode".
