FYI - I figured it out. It was the taskbar that was giving the wrong info. I did a hard reset and reverted back to the original icons. Battery life was great, to say the least. I then re-read tsowens instructions on how to install a custom taskbar (
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=54514). While reading instructions again, I realized I'd forgotten to install the battery meter fix and modify the registry. Everything now works as expected. I'm using tsowentaskbar6v3[1].1, by the way.
