Yeah, that works too. Just mentioning the quickest method.
As long as you're holding vol down, center and power when the phone is starting, it works, I think. Whether you turn it off from the power button, or you remove the battery or you hit reset, it's the same.
The key is to HOLD long enough to get the hard reset screen
