this has been happening more and more with gmail lately. for some reason the gmail server is not seeing the username/pw as correct or as the account as being locked. what has worked for me is to either delete and re-setup the account or to go to this url -
https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha - to unlock the account. good luck.
