1. Verify you are enrolled in the equipment protection program
2. Cook rom
3. Flash rom
4. If bricked, put in bootlader and return to step 3 with known rom. If that doesn't work claim stupidity and return to store for replacement.

I've never bricked a phone either. I've had roms that wouldn't boot, but nothing a hard reset followed by bootloader mode and a known rom couldn't fix.
