Yeah I believe the landscape issues have to do with Showaco's AllTabBg stuff, but that is what helped stabilize the programs tab. I will ask him and see if he has any ideas.
The startup animation is in the key HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation StartUpGif key. I don't have the HTC animation but there is an animation in the \windows folder called apple_squish.gif you might find amusing
